The following problem pertains to FootPrints versions 10.0.2 through 11.6:

If Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 7u45 is installed on a client computer used to access FootPrints Service Core, depending on the Security settings in the Java Control Panel, the security prompts as described below from Java are unexpectedly displayed when:

1. Accessing the Visualization tab on the Details page of a CI in CMDB.
2. Using the Image Copy and Paste feature in the Rich Text Editor of the Description field.

If Java Control Panel settings are high:


and the Visualization tab on the Details page of a CI is accessed, the following security prompts are unexpectedly displayed:

On 01/14/2014, Oracle will be releasing Java 7 Update 51.

If this update is applied on a local computer used to access FootPrints Service Core and java is set to default client settings (see screenshots above), without the patch listed below relative to the version of FootPrints Service Core applied to the server, jar files will be blocked and error messages will appear. This Issue was resolved in FootPrints, version 11.6.01.

Continuous Support customers with active contracts are eligible to receive the current release of FootPrints Service Core at no additional cost.

NOTE: After upgrading to version 11.6.01 or applying a patch listed below to your existing version of Footprints Service Core, users may need to clear the Java Cache on the local computer. See the steps at the bottom of this article for additional information.

Download the patches files below and extract the one  specific to your version of FootPrints  and follow the steps below in order to apply it: The steps below for applying the patch may be followed if:

• FootPrints is not configured in a Fault Tolerant/Failover or Loadbalancing environment.

If FootPrints is configured in a Fault Tolerant/Failover or Loadbalancing environment, do not follow the steps below.

If Loadbalancing is not being used, the steps below may be followed to apply the patch.

For Windows installs of FootPrints:

Windows Server 2008:

1. Save the patch file to the footprints "base" install folder on the server (i.e. C:\Footprints or the actual install location of FootPrints if installed elsewhere).
2. Open a command prompt by clicking the Windows Start button and type command prompt or cmd in the Start Search box.
3. Right-click command prompt or cmd when it appears in the Programs List and choose Run as administrator. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password, or click Continue.
4. cd to the C:\Footprints\cgi folder
5. Run the mrpatch.bat batch file script by simply typing: mrpatch (then press Enter)
6. Follow the prompts to select the patch file and apply it.

Windows Server 2003:

1. Save the patch file to the footprints "base" install folder on the server (i.e. C:\Footprints or the actual install location of FootPrints if installed elsewhere).
2. Open a command prompt by clicking the Windows Start button and select All Programs | Accessories.
3. Right click on Command Prompt and choose Run as... and choose Administrator (if you are currently logged in as Administrator, uncheck the Run this program with restricted access checkbox).
4. Press OK.
5. cd to the C:\Footprints\cgi folder.
6. Run the mrpatch.bat batch file script by simply typing: mrpatch (then press Enter)
7. Follow the prompts to select the patch file and apply it.

For Unix/Linux installs of FootPrints:

• 1. Save the patch file to the footprints root directory on the server (i.e. /usr/local/footprints or the actual install location of FootPrints).
  2. Open a command shell window on the Footprints server.
  3. cd to /usr/local/footprints/cgi
  4. Run the MRpatch.pl script as follows: ./MRpatch.pl
  5. Follow the prompts to select the patch file and apply it.

 

Clear Java Cache

In addition, to ensure all remnants of earlier java components are removed, please perform these steps (refer to previous link for clearing the Java Cache):

1. In the Delete Files and Applications dialog, check all three boxes for Trace and Log Files, Cached Applications and Applets and Installed Applications and Applets.
