With the release of FootPrints Service Core 11.6.04, install packages which include Microsoft SQL Server Express are no longer available. This only pertains to FootPrints 11.6.04 and subsequently released Service Packs of FootPrints 11.x.  Currently existing installs of FootPrints 11.6.03 and prior using Microsoft SQL Server Express are not affected by this change, but they are not available for immediate download. This information also DOES NOT pertain to FootPrints Service Core 12.x as Microsoft SQL Server Express installs of FootPrints Service Core are available and will continue to be for some time.

Although we recommend the use of production versions of Microsoft SQL Server to run a production FootPrints Service Core installation, SQL Server Express for Non-Production Servers Only, if your organization requires database software for a new installation of FootPrints Service Core 11.6.04 and later, the following steps may be performed:

Download and install Microsoft SQL Server Express with Advanced Services from Microsoft. Be sure to obtain the version with Advanced Services, which support Full Text Search. Please check the System Requirements for currently supported versions of SQL Server, see attached. Supported versions of SQL Server Express that are currently available for download from Microsoft are:

SQL Server 2014 Express with Advanced Services - ExpressAdv 64BIT\SQLEXPRADV_x64_ENU.exe
SQL Server 2012 Express with Advanced Services - SQLEXPRADV_x64_ENU.exe
SQL Server 2008 R2 Express with Advanced Services - SQLEXPRADV_x64_ENU.exe

Download FootPrints Service Core for Microsoft SQL Server from the BMC Support Central EPD. Login using your BMC Support Central ID is required. Install FootPrints Service Core for Microsoft SQL Server, using the newly installed Microsoft SQL Server Express install on the same server to create the database for FootPrints.

Installing SQL Server Express

Be sure when installing SQL Server Express to select the custom installation to allow you to make the following changes:
1. Select all features when installing, including Full-Text for Search
2. Set an instance name or keep the default
3. Leave the default Service Accounts and Collation settings
4. In the Database Engine Configuration there are required changes:
    a. Set Authentication Mode to Mixed Mode
    b. Set password for the SA account for use during installation of Footprints
    c. Add additional domain users as SQL Server Administrators
5. Complete the installation
