Random, intermittent and differing Mid-Tier errors: unexplained javascript errors, display problems, caught exception errors, etc using Internet Explorer |
This knowledge article may contain information that does not apply to version 21.05 or later which runs in a container environment. Please refer to Article Number 000385088 for more information about troubleshooting BMC products in containers. Starting with Mid-Tier v8.1x release, there is no support older Internet Explorer versions Internet Explorer (Compatibility View): While running in compatibility view IE will emulate Internet explorer 7. Use of an IE browser running in Compatibility View mode can result in random and differing issues such as:
There's also a possibility that domain admins configured a global policy to enable compatibility view, an exception for Mid tier URL should be added to that domain policy. The how-to for this type of configuration is a question for Microsoft but following are a few links found in an internet search that may be helpful: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/16687978/internet-explorer-how-to-force-compatibility-mode-for-certain-sites https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/ie/forum/ie10-windows_7/how-to-set-compatibility-mode-for-a-single-site-in/187152e3-142a-4d96-8d1b-af82ef571eec http://serverfault.com/questions/627529/force-ie-11-compatibility-mode-for-certain-sites-within-domain To disable Compatibility View in IE 8, 9, 10, deselect the Tools > Compatibility View menu item, or select the Tools > Compatibility View Settings menu item. Remove your site from the list, and make sure the 'Display' options at the bottom are disabled (unchecked). Running IE11 in Enterprise mode will emulate IE8 and this, too, will have similar issues with Mid-Tier as seen using IE emulating the IE 7 browser. It is strongly recommended that IE 11 run in standard IE11 Document mode. To disable Enterprise Mode in IE11, deselect Tools > Enterprise Mode menu item. Some company policies may have this option (to toggle on/off) hidden. See the following link for details on how Enterprise Mode works and how it can be configured by global policies: https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/mt269903.aspx If you are unsure which rendering mode your IE browser is using, you can also use the IE Developer Toolbar (F12 tools) to determine the current Browser Mode in use by IE when logged into the MidTier application; for IE11, select the Emulation tab. The following Microsoft site has information on the IE11 Enterprise mode, a compatibility mode that supports IE11 Windows 8.1 Update and Windows 7 devices. This mode allows a website to render using a modified browser configuration that’s designed to emulate either Windows Internet Explorer 7 or Windows Internet Explorer 8. https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/itpro/internet-explorer/ie11-deploy-guide/what-is-enterprise-mode With Mid-Tier 9.1.02 (91SP2), BMC has integrated with new functionality of IE11. The 9.1.02 release of Mid-Tier also introduces a later version of jQuery which is not compatible with IE 7 or IE8; neither of these browsers is supported for 9.1.02 Mid-Tier. As noted above, IE11 running in Enterprise mode presents an emulation of IE7 or IE8 to the Mid-Tier and this, too, is not supported. Microsoft recommendation is to try stop usin IE and start using Microsoft Edge as a primary browsing option, please check this following article https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/Windows-IT-Pro-Blog/The-perils-of-using-Internet-Explorer-as-your-default-browser/ba-p/331732 Related articles: 000088595 Remedy Mid-Tier 8.x - IE Compatibility View and IE 11 Enterprise mode not supported 000132529 Caught Exception occurs immediately on login when using IE11 on Midtier 9.1.02 000135273 Can meta tags be set to force the browser to use a specific version of IE? |
