A- From the Client Management console.
- On the left side of the AMP console window, locate the device you would like to enable additional logging for under either Device Topology, or Device Groups. Please note that the device MUST be active (active devices will appear with a green icon).
- Expand the device, expand Agent Configuration, and then click Logging
- On the right side of the console window, double click any line to open the Properties window.
- Within this window, change the Displayed Types setting to "*" (without the quotes), and then click OK.
- Ensure that the Enable List value is "*" as well.
- The log file can be viewed on the Log File tab on the right side of the Client Management console.
B- From the agent configuration files
This method could be used if the device cannot communicate with its parent.
- On the device, go to the folder containing the BMC Client Management agent files (by default this will be C:\Program Files\BMC Software\Client Management\Client\)
- Within this folder, open the \config\mtxagent.ini file in any text editor (such as Notepad).
- In this INI file, search for "EnableTypes=" (within Notepad Edit > Find will open the find dialog box).
- Change the "EnableTypes=" line to read EnableTypes=*
- Next, find the "EnableList=" line and ensure that it reads EnableList=*
- If you are enabling this logging detail to diagnose an issue related to performance, or Auto Discovery, please skip to step 8.
- Locate the "DisableList=" line and set it to DisableList=Autodiscovery.
- The log file will be available in the agent directory under \logs\mtxagent.log
- To revert the logging level back to default, follow steps 1-6 once more, changing the "EnableTypes" line to EnableTypes=Error,Audit (note that there is no space between the comma and the word Audit), and clearing the value from the DisableList line.
C- Through an Operational Rule
- Download the archive attached to this KA which contains operational rules that enable the additional logging detail, and to revert the logging settings back to default.
- Extract the contents of this zip archive to a temporary location on any system where the console is installed.
- In the console, click File > Import, and browse for the XML file extracted from the archive above
After importing, the rules will most likely be under the Global Settings > Lost and Found node, please copy/paste them to the Operational Rules node to assign them to devices.
NOTE:This operational rule contains steps which require the Software Distribution capability to be included in your installed license. If our technical support team has requested logs with additional detail, and your current license does not include the Software distribution feature, please request an evaluation license from your support representative.
