This article describes how to create a FootPrints backup set that can be sent to BMC Technical Support to assist with the recreation and resolution of application problems.

NOTE: Please be sure to follow ALL steps listed below to provide a complete package of the database and listed folders/files. Additionally, these steps must be performed with full Administrator privileges.

1. On the computer where FootPrints is installed create a folder where the FootPrints Backup set will be created. This will be referred to as the backup set folder in the steps below. Example: C:\FootPrints Backup Set

2. Stop the Apache Tomcat service - Should be listed as Apache Tomcat 7.0 Tomcat7 or Apache Tomcat 8.5 Tomcat8 (under Start -> Administrative Tools -> Services).

3. Create a folder named "deploy-folder" in the backup set folder.

4. Copy the following files and folders from your FootPrints Service Core installation folder to the "deploy-folder".

   1. Folders:

      1. add-ons

      2. bin

      3. conf

      4. ext

      5. logs

      6. Do not include the "footprints" folder.

      7. Do not include the "UninstallBMCFootPrints" folder.

      8. Do not include the "web" folder.

      9. Do not include the "repository" folder.

   2. Files:

      1. version.xml

      2. Do not include any other files from the FootPrints installation folder

   3. The completed backup set should look like this when finished:
      

5. Backup the FootPrints Service Core 12 database using the following steps: MS SQL Server

   1. Open up Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio.

   2. Connect to the source SQL server where the Footprints database exists.

   3. Expand "Server Name -> Databases -> fpscdb001"

   4. Right click "fpscdb001".

      1. Select Properties.

      2. Select the Options page on the left and set the Recovery Model on the right to "Simple".

      3. Click OK to save the setting.

   5. Right-click "fpscdb001" again.

      1. Select "Tasks"

      2. Select "Shrink > Database"

      3. In the Shrink Database screen, click OK to shrink the database.

   6. Right-click "fpscdb001" once more to create the backup.

      1. Select "Tasks"

      2. Now select "Back Up..."

   7. Select FULL backup and choose a location to hold this backup.

      1. The default name will be fpscdb001.bak

      2. For example: C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.10.MSSQLSERVERMSSQLBackupfpscdb001.bak

   8. Press the OK button to begin the backup.

   9. Once the database backup successfully completes, copy the fpscdb001.bak file to the backup set folder created in step 1.

   PostgreSQL:

   1. Open up pgAdmin

   2. Connect to the PostgreSQL server where the FootPrints database exists.

   3. Right-click on the database to back up and choose a backup.
       

      

       

   4. Verify the backup settings match those in the following screenshot:
       

      

      
      Referring to the image above, the "Dump Options #1", "Dump Options #2", "Objects" and "Messages" tab should use default settings.

   5. When the options are filled in, click on the "Backup" button.

   6. When the backup has finished, copy the "footprints.sql" file to the backup set folder created in step 1.

6. Zip up the entire backup set folder.

7. Send the zipped-up backup set to BMC Technical Support.

8. Be sure to restart Tomcat once the creation of the backup set is complete.
