This article describes how to install Apache Tomcat Web server for use with FootPrints 12.X and 20.XX

Warning:  Do not install Apache Tomcat or Footprints 12.1.X - 20.XX on a server that has Footprints 11.x installed. 
The Tomcat application used by Footprints 11.x for the Executive Dashboard will conflict with the installation of Apache Tomcat 7 or Tomcat 8.5 required by Footprints 12.1.X - 20.XX

FootPrints 12.1.XX - 20.XX requires a Tomcat server is installed prior to installing FootPrints 12.1.XX - 20.XX
The Tomcat web server requires Java 8 is installed for version 12.1.XX and OpenJDK for versions above 20.18.03.

How to install Tomcat for FootPrints version 12
NOTE:
Version 20.21.02 requires Tomcat 8.5 or Tomcat 9
Versions 20.18.03 - 20.21.01 requires Tomcat version 8.5.
All other versions of FootPrints 12 require Tomcat 7 only.


If installing FootPrints on Windows:
  1. Download the correct version of Tomcat 7 or 8.5 or 9 from the Apache Tomcat web site. 
    1. Download the "32-bit/64-bit Windows Service Installer"  Note: This will be the EXE file for the current version of Apache Tomcat
  2. Run the Tomcat installer on the system where FootPrints will be installed.
  3. When the installer asks for the path to Java, make sure to select a Java 8 installation. NOTE: FootPrints requires Java 8.  How to install an Oracle Java 8 JRE for usage in Footprints 12
  4. For additional help installing Tomcat, please review the documentation on the Apache Tomcat web site.
  5. After installing Tomcat on Windows, be sure to view How to configure Tomcat for FootPrints 12 for further configuration.

If installing FootPrints on Linux:
  1. Download the correct version of Tomcat from the Apache Tomcat web site.
    1. Download the "tar.gz" package
  2. Extract the installer to its own directory.
  3. Review the RUNNING.txt file extracted from the installer to complete the installation of Tomcat. NOTE: FootPrints requires Java 8. When configuring Tomcat make sure it is using Java 8.
